Gig Review: 28th May 2006 - Rat & Parrot, Woking

One of the more surreal places to play. And as our support, (part-music, part cabaret-stand-up-comedy act) Liquid Laugh said, "So.. Woking eh? What's with all the loud cars?" Aside from a painful set-up process, the night went relatively smoothly and familiar faces turned up to see us, as well as a few unsuspecting bystanders who got into the swing of things.

"Thankyou for the best night out I've ever had in Woking. And I've lived here all my life." Thanks.. I think. The beaming smile on her face told me that it was a compliment.

And I know it's 'just' Woking and that there was nothing wrong with our set tonight, but there's still room for our performance to be slicker, more polished and deliver more. When we reach that standard, the notch will just go up again. Posted by Picasa

New Subsource Live Promo Video

Our handyman, jack-of-all-trades and ex-roadie (whom we fired for being really shit at it - seriously, Worst Roadie Ever), Matt Brace has been beavering busily away again preparing a live promo video featuring some of the best bits of our live shows..

You may have seen his name dotted around on our promo videos and credited with some of our photos, but here's his formal introduction. As mentioned, he's an all-round handyman and provides plenty of entertainment whenever he's on the road with us to take photos/video footage. Of course, usually the entertainment is at his expense.

The more observant Subsourceites may have noticed the lack of glowing green eyes on the back of my laptop at the past few shows. The screen broke, and I'm still waiting for it to be fixed and Matt has saved our bacon by letting me use his.. so thanks again Matty and great job with our promo video. This has been made to give promoters an idea of what we do live to see if they want to book us, but we figured we'd make it public to tide you over until the Making Voodoo video is ready.

Stream it from here:

And check out Matt's other work - he's uber-talented with music too so check him out here:

Making Voodoo: Making Video

It's been a hectic few weeks, hence the lack of blogging action at Planet Borg. I'm happy to say we've moved server again and this one might just work out - so expect to see a few more goodies on the website soon.

The music video for Making Voodoo is well underway, and before I go any further, I must absolutely give the video team a massive thankyou.. they've been brilliant, kind and generous to us in getting together and working on this purely out of the belief in what we're doing and the desire to support us. This artwork used during the video was knocked up in a single night.. talk about efficient!

It was a long and tiring one to get all the footage done in a single day - and pretty educational to see what the rest of the band really look like when they're playing live.. anyhow I won't give too much away about the video content, but I'll just post a few sneak preview photos taken from the shoot. Like us, you'll have to wait about a month until all the intensive editing, overlaying of CGI, and relaxed-but-tasteful censorship of the nude scenes is complete before the video is unleashed.

Many thanks to: Daniel, Luke, Felix, Arnika, Maya, Bumni, the man who needeth no introduction - Kimba, and of course, the mastermind genius and driving force behind it all - Tuleka. Posted by Picasa

Gig Review: 5th May 2006 - The Star

Back in our hometown - there was an air of us returning as smalltown heroes after some conquering victory in a far-off land. Quite a lot of technical hitches throughout the night meant that we didn't end up going on until much later than expected which added to the anticipation and tension - semi-recognised people and total strangers asking what time we were on and telling us that they'd come out just to see us. It's a flattering and humbling experience.

From one of the bar staff: "This is the most packed and happy crowd I've ever seen here, ever."

Yet, for all the energy we put out tonight, and the energy the crowd gave back... for all the genuine compliments and the support that we had (and I can't stress how much we appreciate it) - I can't help but feel that there's something missing. It's a feeling of detachment, like the whole room's having a party without you. Perhaps it's a buffer between the perception that we're the reason everyone's here tonight and the reality of the fact that we're just a band with a hell of a long way to go still before we get close to fulfilling our ambitions. Posted by Picasa

Gig Review: 4th May 2006 - Cargo

Unfortunately I'd forgotten to recharge my camera battery so we're making use of camera phone images in the van on the way back. Hopefully someone out there will send us some shots of this one... please do if you took any photos from that night.

A freakishly hot day meant that punters were pretty slow making it out to the venue.. A great night nevertheless, with uber cool and very friendly Laid Blak (vocal-led reggae). Of course, we were proud to be supporting the legendary jungle-pioneers Congo Natty who were on after us. (Some guy I spoke to said he flew in from Toronto to come and see them...) The hot weather also meant it was pretty hot on stage too. Actually had the laptop overheat and crash in the middle of the set which was a pretty distressing experience. Once again though, we were reminded that we must absolutely replace the damn CD player. We're getting pretty adept at jumping forward ahead a couple of beats but we'd really rather just be focusing on delivering a good show. Posted by Picasa

Angry Bouncer

Aha here's the moment before the irate bouncer started pulling leads out of Paul's gear in Farnham last week. They've already got the main lights on but Kimba's air guitar-licking antics are drawing the band momentum forwards still. All I can say (especially because I haven't blanked his face out and wouldn't want to instigate any legal action against me) is that the poor guy's just doing his job and wants to go home early - maybe to attend to his 6 kids that he's brought up singlehandedly since the terrible tragedy 10 years ago now. So have every sympathy for him. Yes indeed. No abuse whatsoever coming from here. None. Posted by Picasa
