The Van Plan

I get a phone call from Stuey this morning.
"You know I put the van in for a service yesterday?"
"Yep."
"The van we bought for £600.."
"Yep."
"The service plus recommended works comes to £1850"
"Uh..."
"Oh, and we probably need to add VAT on top of that"

The sad fact of the matter is that despite the number of gigs we've done this year, they usually barely cover our diesel costs and we've no way near that amount in the band funds. Today I meant to buy a Subsource stage-approved shirt (i.e. black, and doesn't make me look fat), then get a hefty writing session in, but instead we spent a good 8 hours researching possible van options and going to have a look at some other used ones. Looks like we'll be losing our current van fairly soon. Sigh, happy memories.

In addition, Paul's laptop (iBook) blew its motherboard, so he's gone and bought a swish Intel MacBook job thanks to parental intervention. Sometimes you get those patches where problems and challenges are thrown at you and this is definitely one of those periods. To compound our financial struggles, I seem to be surrounded by people who have either just landed new jobs or have been promoted with sizeable payrises, and I just can't help but contemplate the decisions I've taken... perhaps I'm overtired and I've been overthinking, but sometimes you have to think 'bollocks' to this no-regrets fast-lane attitude to life and for a couple of hours at least, the conversation between my heart and the bottom of my stomach has been telling me to definitely consider there's the possibility that I've made a mistake. Posted by Picasa
