Gig Review: 5th May 2006 - The Star

Back in our hometown - there was an air of us returning as smalltown heroes after some conquering victory in a far-off land. Quite a lot of technical hitches throughout the night meant that we didn't end up going on until much later than expected which added to the anticipation and tension - semi-recognised people and total strangers asking what time we were on and telling us that they'd come out just to see us. It's a flattering and humbling experience.

From one of the bar staff: "This is the most packed and happy crowd I've ever seen here, ever."

Yet, for all the energy we put out tonight, and the energy the crowd gave back... for all the genuine compliments and the support that we had (and I can't stress how much we appreciate it) - I can't help but feel that there's something missing. It's a feeling of detachment, like the whole room's having a party without you. Perhaps it's a buffer between the perception that we're the reason everyone's here tonight and the reality of the fact that we're just a band with a hell of a long way to go still before we get close to fulfilling our ambitions. Posted by Picasa
