Gig Review: Thursday 13th April - The Watershed

We had a rehearsal for Stuey's debut singing vocals live on the morning of the gig, where we discovered that Paul's beloved red Custom Shop Fender Strat went missing at some point after the gig. We're not sure where exactly and have no idea how, but we do know that it's the instrument that he's been attached to the most during the course of his musical endeavours. It's been 14 years and he's spent many many hours with that chunk of wood and it's whereabouts is unknown - and as hours go by, the likeliness of it turning up is reducing. We *think* it's insured. I'll get the serial number and a photo of it for the blog so people can keep their eyes peeled in second-hand shops for it. (Especially in Shoreditch and surrounding areas)

Since then, there's been paranoia about leaving stuff either at home or at a gig. With the amount of gear that we end up taking to shows, there's no real foolproof way of ensuring we have everything..

There was high expectation for this show, with it being 'My Luminaries' launch party after being signed with V2. Tickets had been sold out well in advance and there were very few on the door for lucky punters.. we were proud to help the headline act celebrate. It was a little bit tough for us because there was a lot of waiting around (they ended up doing 15 tracks and we went on almost two hours later than scheduled) and that's always the hardest bit for us. Still, they did a great show and the audience loved it.. hopefully they'll go onto great things with the Virgin label. A fair few stuck around to see us (and many thanks to those that waited around *just* to see us, because it was pretty late) and we had a pretty good one, barring a few technical difficulties with our sequencer track.

Haven't really talked about this much because it's a bit of our trade secret, but Our sequencer track which is currently running off a CD player contains parts that aren't worth us playing live but add extra bits to our sound. This is mainly used for vocals where we don't have a vocalist. Unfortunately, this is prone to skipping where the stage is a bit bouncy and this happened a lot on this night, so the audience would have heard points where it sounded like we were out of time for a fraction of a bar. (Really not great for a dance band.) Nevertheless we've vowed this is the last time this is ever going to be a problem - we're pretty pissed off with the CD player so we're getting in a replacement solution in for next week.

The exact fate of the old CD player is still in question, but we can say for sure that it's going to be violent. Posted by Picasa
