Gig Review: 20th April 2006 - Brixton Jamm
A welcome return to the Brixton Jamm - this time with promoters Needleandthread.org. A very cool eclectic line-up, with Bela Emerson (solo cello with experimental sampling stuff going on), Ashok (chilled folk/hip-hop) and Sound Corruption (rock-ish with electronic overtones). A really great night, made for me by the friendliness of the other acts and the audience... a collective effort to entertain and for all involved to enjoy it. Except the poor sound guy who was having a nightmare with equipment breaking and technical difficulties throughout the night but it was held together fairly well considering. Special mention to the siren-esque hippy dancing vocalist in Ashok, who was awesome - go see them if you get the chance and you'll see what I mean. So cool.
We ordered in an MP3 player to try to replace the CD player during the rehearsal on the morning of the gig. It didn't do quite what we wanted, and also Neil typically managed to break it within 90 minutes of having it. Good work. CD player looks like it's going to be used for a few more gigs yet. On the plus side of things, Paul's dearly beloved guitar has turned up at 'On The Rocks' venue, which is a huge relief to him. Phew. On to uncharted territory at Filthy McNasty's the very next day.. so an early-ish night (got in at 4am) followed by healthy brunch..
