Gig Review: Mass, Brixton 27th October
Weren't sure what to expect from this one. We'd heard great things about this club, but we're always apprehensive about going to a new venue. Especially on a Thursday night.
It's an impressive church building where they've converted the back half of it into a club. We pull up round the side for a sweaty panting Stu to tell us that it's on the 4th floor and the lift's out of action. Good. Apparently it's been out of action for almost a year and the reason for it not being sorted is because it's going to cost £25,000. We have a quick whip-round amongst the other bands but eventually resign ourselves to making many trips up and down the stairs.
The other guys: "Downbeats" (Ska) and "Rebel Alliance" (MC crew) put on good shows but unfortunately, there just weren't that many people there. Still, it's an awesome venue and we're glad to have been there -- hopefully we'll have impressed the promoter enough to come back. His name's Zaid - bit of a personality. Couldn't for the life of us get him to stand up and dance during our set but he caught us outside whilst we were loading our cars and he was saying he rated us. Then he promptly turned around to take a piss up the side of the church.
